How do I maintain my Fire Feature?
Refer to your owner/installation manual for maintenance information. It may seem obvious, but even if the feature were professionally installed, you need to know how to operate and maintain it properly. The manual may also provide additional, essential information and requirements to protect your fire feature and your warranty.
Inspect your fire feature before each use. Make sure there is no dirt or debris in or around the burner. Before lighting, confirm all connections are secure and there is no smell of gas. If you smell gas, do not light the feature. Immediately contact a licensed professional to inspect the fire feature.
Check to make sure all vents are open and clear of debris. Venting prevents heat damage to internal components and allows airflow in case of gas pooling in the cavity of the fire feature. CROSSFIRE Brass Burner systems require 18” of ventilation on opposing sides of the fire feature.
Only use fire rated media (glass, lava rock, log sets, etc.) approved for use with high temperatures that have been manufactured specifically for use in fire features. Never use any material that is not fire rated. Non-rated material, when heated, may crack or fracture, causing damage to the fire feature or bodily harm.
Cover it! Covers prevent water, dirt, leaves, sand and other debris from getting inside the burner system. A cover also protects it from rain, snow and ice, which can take a toll. Make sure to allow your burner system to cool completely before covering.
If water does get in your fire feature, allow the burner and media to dry completely before lighting. Warming Trends plates and pans are designed with drainage slots to prevent water from collecting, but water can get into the burner system. If there is water in the burner, call a qualified service technician to drain the burner and inspect the feature.
Regularly check the area surrounding your fire feature to make sure no combustibles are within 36” from the sides of the unit, or within 120” from the top of the burner. As vegetation grows throughout the warm months, trimming may be required to maintain clearances.
Have a licensed professional inspect the burner, connections, and the gas supply lines once a year.
